Rooting DC 2026

Rooting DC is a FREE, all- day event that provides education and community building around urban agriculture and food systems, with the goal of cultivating personal, community, and environmental wellbeing. It is the District’s central meeting ground for land stewards and garden lovers to strengthen their connection with crops and community in the nation’s capital. The Rooting DC program includes interactive workshops on crop production, food preparation/preservation/waste-prevention, and agroecology as a source of education and art. The event also hosts an exhibitor hall of local businesses, non-profits, and government entities from across the metropolitan region.
The event was first held in 2007 as a small gathering of about 150 urban gardeners and has grown into a perennial gathering, attracting several hundred attendees each year. Rooting DC is sponsored by the District’s Department of Energy and Environment.
RiverSmart Homes will be presenting on rain barrels and maintenance practices from 11:15-12:15. Participants will have the opportunity to enter a raffle to win a 50 gallon barrel. There will be five barrels available for raffle.
Rooting DC es un evento GRATUITO que dura todo el día y que brinda educación y desarrollo comunitario en temas de la agricultura urbana y los sistemas alimenticios, con el objetivo de cultivar el bienestar personal, comunitario y ambiental. Es el lugar de encuentro central del Distrito para que los protectores de la tierra y los amantes de los jardines fortalezcan su conexión con los cultivos y la comunidad en la capital del país. El programa Rooting DC incluye talleres interactivos sobre producción de cultivos, preparación/ conservación/ prevención de residuos de alimentos y agroecología como fuente de educación y arte. El evento también alberga una sala de expositores de empresas locales, organizaciones sin fines de lucro y entidades gubernamentales de toda la región metropolitana. El evento se celebró por primera vez en 2007 como una pequeña reunión de unos 150 jardineros urbanos y se ha convertido en una reunión perenne que atrae a varios cientos de asistentes cada año. Rooting DC está patrocinado por el Departamento de Energía y Medio Ambiente del Distrito (DOEE).
